Forte dei Marmi: an architectural renovation by Michele Vitaloni + Partners reconnects a 1960s hotel with today’s hospitality standards, employing travertine and custom porcelain stoneware surfaces across three floors and a tower
Resort Miramonti, Forte dei Marmi: the renovation project
Resort Miramonti—built in the early 1960s by Silvio Angelini—has finished a new renovation in the Roma Imperiale district, a short walk from the centre and shoreline of Forte dei Marmi. The upgrade covers both interior and exterior areas and retains the hotel’s geometric footprint while updating services first added over the past six decades.
Michele Vitaloni + Partners architectural approach for Resort Miramonti: ceramic materials in hotel design
The restyling was led by the Forte dei Marmi–based studio Michele Vitaloni + Partners, which also operates in Milan, London and St. Moritz. The practice focused on rational lines and clear perspectives, using travertine to reference the founder’s heritage and integrating customised lighting schemes to define circulation routes and communal zones.
Porcelain stoneware from Marazzi is a core element. Rather than acting solely as cladding, the tiles form structural and spatial divisions through varied formats and placements. Their role is both decorative and functional, contributing to a consistent material language across guest rooms and shared areas.

Room layouts, lighting and furniture selections
Guest rooms are located on the ground floor, first floor and within a standalone tower. Each room follows a distinct layout, colour palette and lighting plan. Ceramic surfaces, Salvatori marble in bathrooms, and selected woods are combined with matte finishes and natural textiles.
Lighting fixtures by Flos are paired with Living Divani furniture, including the Chemise and NeoWall beds. Pieces are specified room-by-room to avoid visual repetition and to match the overall programme of measured differentiation requested by the design brief.
