Baccarat Rouge 540 Takes Center Stage in Milan

Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s Baccarat Rouge 540 transforms La Rinascente Milan Piazza Duomo into a week-long immersive fragrance takeover

Until 16 June 2025, the windows and ground-floor beauty hall of La Rinascente Milano Piazza Duomo are glowing a magnetic crimson. The hue is the unmistakable signature of Baccarat Rouge 540, and it heralds an exclusive store-wide takeover by Maison Francis Kurkdjian that invites visitors into a multi-sensory journey.

A Crystal-Red Legend, Bottled: Baccarat Rouge 540

Created in 2014 to mark the 250th anniversary of French crystal house Baccarat, Baccarat Rouge 540 fuses the creative visions of maître parfumeur Francis Kurkdjian and the artisans of Baccarat. Their original project yielded just 250 hand-numbered flacons in Baccarat crystal—an homage to craftsmanship as meticulous as it is rare.

The fragrance takes its name from the alchemical transformation that turns clear crystal into a vivid scarlet: 24-karat gold powder is fused into the molten glass at precisely 540 °C, birthing the storied “rouge à l’or.” Kurkdjian translated this fiery metamorphosis into scent through three symbolic “breaths”—mineral, fire, and air—capturing both the density and the shimmer of crystal.

The resulting composition is instantly recognizable: airy jasmine and luminous saffron glide over the mineral radiance of Ambroxan™, all wrapped in the smoldering, spiced warmth of red cedar. Its graphic sillage has since become a global touchstone, anchoring the brand’s 32-fragrance “olfactory wardrobe.”

Baccarat Rouge 540: An Immersive Red Horizon on Piazza Duomo

For its Milan showcase, the Maison has drenched the store’s façade and counter in the perfume’s signature crimson. Window installations glow like giant Baccarat flacons, luring passers-by into an enveloping play of light, crystal facets, and scented air. Inside, visitors embark on a multisensory journey: curated soundscapes echo molten glass; perfumed air diffusers reveal Baccarat Rouge 540’s building blocks; and interactive displays trace the fragrance’s rise from cult secret to worldwide phenomenon.

Throughout the week, the ground-floor counter becomes an atelier of customization. Purchasers can have their bottles silk-screened on site, then adorned with delicate hand-applied gold leaf—a direct nod to the 24-karat gold that sparks Baccarat’s crimson. Artisans will also craft floral compositions inspired by the fragrance’s visual codes, allowing guests to bring home a bouquet that mirrors its balance of transparency and intensity.

Extending the Maison’s Italian Footprint

The takeover coincides with a milestone in Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s expansion: January 2025 saw the opening of its first dedicated Italian subsidiary, underscoring the brand’s commitment to one of Europe’s most dynamic luxury markets. Now active in more than 60 countries and part of the LVMH group since 2017, the Maison continues to champion an ethos of purity, refinement, and timeless innovation.

As Baccarat Rouge 540 paints Milan red for seven days, the installation offers more than a product launch. It invites visitors to witness the meeting of elemental forces—fire that colors crystal, mineral facets that illuminate scent, and air that carries both light and perfume. For lovers of artisanal excellence and striking olfactive statements alike, Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s crimson horizon in Piazza Duomo is a fleeting spectacle not to be missed.
